The Barrie Colts overcame an early deficit on Thursday night at Sadlon Arena, scoring six unanswered goals to defeat the Kingston Frontenacs 6–2 to take the opening game of their second-round series.
Kingston struck first with two goals in the opening ten minutes. Maleek McGowan scored on a breakaway at 5:01, followed by Tuomas Uronen finishing off a feed from Jacob Battaglia.
Barrie responded with a pair of their own first period tallies. Riley Patterson got the Colts on the board, and Dallas Stars prospect Emil Hemming tied the game with a power-play one-timer.
Carter Lowe netted the lone goal of the middle stanza, putting home the go-ahead marker to give Barrie a 3–2 lead heading into the third.
Early in the final frame, Quinte Red Devils graduate Dalyn Wakely found the back of the net, continuing his strong postseason after tallying 12 points in the opening round.
Barrie captain Beau Jelsma buried his fifth of the playoffs before projected first-round NHL pick Kashawn Aitcheson scored on the man advantage to make it 6–2.
Sam Hillebrandt was excellent in the win, turning aside 38 shots and earning first-star honours.
Game 2 goes Saturday night in Barrie with puck drop set for 7:30 p.m.
