Erie Otters overage forward and Notre Dame commit Pano Fimis had a hat trick three-goal performance and put up six total points as the Erie Otters won 9-5 in Saginaw, taking the first two games of the series on the road.
Despite missing star defenceman Matthew Schaefer and captain Carey Terrance, the Otters' offence hasn’t slowed down.
For the second straight game, Saginaw had a rough five-minute stretch that proved costly and a rough start to the third period, with a parade to the penalty box by both teams at times, in front of 5004 disappointed home fans at the Dow Event Center.
Kaleb Papineau stopped 34 of 42 shots in defeat while Noah Erliden stopped 28 of 33 in victory for the Otters.
The Spirit will need to tighten up defensively if they want to turn things around in Game 3 and get back in the series.
The series now shifts to Erie on Tuesday night at Erie Insurance Arena, with the Otters heading home up 2-0 in the best of seven first round series between these two US-based markets.
