The second seeded Windsor Spitfires defeated the seventh seeded Soo Greyhounds 8-4 in game 5 on Friday, taking the Western Conference first round series 4-1.
Landon Miller got the start in net for the Greyhounds with Nolan Lalonde being unavailable after leaving game 4 with an injury, stopping 22 of 29 shots he faced.
Most of the goals for the Spitfires came in the opening period as they beat Landon Miller 6 times on 16 shots. Liam Greentree had himself a night, recording a hat trick and 2 assists for a 5 point night. Ilya Protas notched 4 points in the win, while Ryan Abraham and Jack Nesbitt each had 3 point nights. In total, the Spitfires saw 12 skaters find the scoresheet.
For the Greyhounds, Brady Martin scored twice in the loss with Owen Allard and Noel Nordh each collecting a pair of assists. Brady R Smith and Carson Andrew scored the other 2 goals for the SOO Greyhounds.
Joey Costanzo picked up another victory after making 28 saves on 32 shots in front of 4942 fans at the WFCU Centre.
The Windsor Spitfires will take on the Kitchener Rangers in round 2 after they defeated Flint in 5 games. Schedule for their second round matchup will be released in the coming days.
