The Buffalo Sabres closed out the second half of their home-and-home preseason series against the Blue Jackets with a victory in front of fans at the KeyBank Center.
Miles Wood (1) opened the scoring for Columbus in the second period, redirecting a screened point shot on the powerplay.
Late in the frame, Tage Thompson (1) capitalized on a feed from behind the net by Zach Benson, snapping a short-side shot to even the score at one.
In the third, Konsta Helenius continued to impress, taking a pass down low and attempting a forehand-backhand move to slip the puck under the pad. Though he lost control, the loose puck slid across to Jason Zucker (1) on the far side, who tapped in the eventual game-winner into a wide-open net.
As in the previous game, Alex Lyon manned the crease for the first two periods before Devon Levi took over in the third. The tandem combined for 18 saves on the night.
Three Stars:
#1. Jason Zucker (BUF)
#2. Tage Thompson (BUF)
#3. Zach Benson (BUF)
