After a heartbreaking 4-3 overtime loss in Game 1 of their Western Conference series vs a strong Kitchener Rangers team, the Flint Firebirds earn shutout victory against Kitchener as the series shifted back to Flint.
Unlike the first two contests, Game 3 would be low event and low scoring until the third period when Kaden Pitre finally broke through for the first goal of the contest at the 6:25 mark of the final period for his first goal of the postseason.
Flint would find themselves in penalty trouble shortly after with Kitchener having an opportunity to tie the game but it was the Firebirds stealing that momentum as Matthew Wang took the pass from Edmonton Oilers prospect Connor Clattenburg and beat Jackson Parsons for a massive shorthanded goal just over a minute later.
The Firebirds were able to lock it down and keep a dangeroud Rangers offence in check and scoreless on their four powerplay opportunities to earn a 2-0 shutout victory, thanks to a perfect 38-save performance by Nathan Day. Parsons stopped 30 of 32 in the loss.
The six-seeded underdog Firebirds hold home turf for the time being, leading into Game 4 on Thursday night at the Dort Financial Center, looking to even up the series on home ice.
