Tanner Adams is making the most of his opportunity to represent Canada at the 2026 U17 World Hockey Challenge in Oakville.

The 16-year-old Sudbury Wolves forward was named an alternate captain with Canada Red for the tournament.

Adams was selected third overall by the Brampton Steelheads in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection after spending his minor midget season with the Hill Academy, where he scored 34 goals and 88 points in 52 games.

A week before the start of the season, he was acquired by Sudbury in a major trade that saw the Wolves send 15 draft picks to Brampton.

Prior to the deal, Adams was expecting to play with his hometown Timmins Rock while awaiting a trade.

Instead, he has four points in six games with the Central Division-leading Wolves and is now representing his country on the international stage.

"It's an honour to wear the leaf on your chest," Adams said of receiving the call from Hockey Canada.

Adams is joined at the tournament by Wolves teammate Kash Kwajah and equipment manager Brandon Grace.

As Adams is working his way back into game shape after an injury disrupted his start to the season. The message from Dan DaSilva and his coaching staff has been to play his game and help the team compete for a gold medal.

"They just want me to play my game, hard, physical, compete," he said. "They want me to help win us some games and a gold medal."

Adams has contributed three assists through two games so far of the 2026 World U17's for Team Canada Red.
